Marella Cruises

Following last year’s successful orientation event onboard the Marella Discovery 2, TUI invited us back to facilitate the orientation of 870 Assistant Store Managers and TUI head office staff onboard their newly acquired and refurbished ship – Marella Explorer – the biggest ship in their fleet. Docked in Palma, Mallorca, the teams used our interactive app to familiarise themselves with the variety of amenities onboard in an immersive and engaging way.


Our team of expert creatives worked closely with TUI to put together a completely unique orientation event. Indoor map functionality was used to create detailed, well designed maps of the ship’s fourteen decks, with image recognition hotspots strategically placed to help navigate teams to key points of interest. Teams were able to switch between 5 different maps – each a visual representation of the decks, accessible via a specially designed main menu.

As teams made their way around the ship locating the hotspots, presentation screens and challenges were unlocked that provided the teams with essential information they needed to know about the ship when selling packages to clients on dry land.

The interactive challenges included engaging questions, tasks and media questions about the 962 cabins, 10 restaurants, 10 bars, 2 pools and 10 lifts! Phew! As well as this, we also created a variety of orientation questions about essential information to ensure the Store Managers felt confident in every aspect of the ship’s facilities. As well as this, the teams got to experience the brand new Champneys Spa – the first spa of its kind at sea!

Fun bonus tasks and curveball challenges were included throughout the event to build excitement and keep participants on their toes. With opportunities to win prizes such as a guided tour on the Captain’s Bridge – teams were engaged and immersed from start to finish. What’s more – TUI’s Board of Directors also added some ‘trick tasks’ into the activity, with fake points up for grabs! Using the app’s inter-team messaging function, video messages of The Captain, Guest Relations Manager and Destination Services Manager popped up on screen – adding a fun, personalised touch to the event.


This year’s orientation event was a massive success. TUI Assistant Store Managers were fully engaged with the activity throughout and gained valuable knowledge and insight about Marella Explorer, which they were able to take away and use to their advantage when selling cruise packages to customers. By combining the physical facilities onboard, with our interactive technology and fun engaging challenges, participants were able to retain what they learnt about the ship – with 100% of teams saying they felt more confident about selling the Marella Cruise Experience on completion of the activity. In addition, the activity acted as the perfect networking tool to socialise TUI staff from across the country who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to meet, alongside giving them the opportunity to meet the board of directors in person. The collaboration required during the activity, provided valuable insights on how to improve the customer experience both onboard and instore.

After a hugely successful ship tour treasure hunt last year, we knew that we had to team up with Wildgoose again for the launch of our newest ship, Marella Explorer. Emily and Sheridan who led the project were a joy to work with – super organised and hardworking, and came up with lots of new ideas to make our onboard treasure hunt even better than the previous year.

Nothing was too much trouble, even when we had to make some unexpected last minute changes on the day of the event. The wider team that flew out to support the treasure hunt were also fantastic – so enthusiastic and accommodating.

The feedback from the Travel Advisors and Head Office staff that took part was brilliant, with 100% of teams saying that the treasure hunt made them feel more confident in selling cruises on Marella Explorer. Partnering with Wildgoose and using their events expertise took the pressure off the Cruise team, allowing us to focus on launching our newest ship knowing that the ship tours for over 800 people were in safe hands
