Robus Risk Management Case Study

THE BRIEF:
For the past two years, Robus have approached us to provide the team building element to their annual away day and so it was great to hear from them again via our partners at Twickenham Stadium, where they were holding their annual team away day this year. Initially they were planning to take part in our Twickenham City Explorer theme but the team at Wildgoose convinced Robus organiser Sophie to “trust us on this one” and take part in our unique new theme for 2015 “The Scrum Challenge”, created for the run up to the Rugby World Cup. We knew the group from Robus well enough to know they would love this competitive challenge and it was also the perfect fit for their choice of venue.

THE SOLUTION:
Set up to take teams around the outside of the stadium and the surrounding streets of Twickenham, The Scrum Challenge offered teams a whole new twist on anything they had ever experienced with us before. The teams were put through their paces, with scattered hotspots activated via GPS, made up of light-hearted rugby related challenges and bonus rounds giving teams the chance to “convert” their scores alongside hotspots filled with challenges relating to the various nations taking part in the Rugby World Cup at Twickenham later this year.

With the Event Manager playing the part of “Ref” for the day, mixed teams of both men and women were thrown curveball challenges via the direct messaging function giving them the chance to steal penalty points from the opposition’s scoreboard. Finally, a “Golden Ball” bonus round challenge appearing mid-game, consisting of a selection of image recognition steps, tasking teams with locating and scanning items relating to the RWC pool games host stadiums was included to ensure that the teams were certainly not short of things to do!

Briefed and raring to go the group took their selfies and started getting creative with their team names. Spreading out around the area and unlocking hotspots, teams were tasked with a huge range of photo and video challenges that included collaborations with other teams such as “Locate an opposing team and photograph yourselves going into a scrum together”.

THE RESULT:
Questions about the countries and cultures were well received with some hilarious responses to challenges such as “Shoot a 30 second video recreating the Haka for New Zealand”. Image recognition tasks were thoroughly enjoyed, where teams had to locate and scan a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale and the English Rose via image recognition enabling them to unlock bonus rounds. Finally after 2 ½ exhilarating hours, teams were back at the stadium’s rugby museum for drinks and a fun wrap up and awards session.
