The Brief

For the past five years, the University of Bath Gold Scholarship Programme has partnered with Wildgoose to deliver an annual team and confidence-building day in London. The goal: help each new cohort of around 50 Gold Scholars build connections, develop teamwork skills, and explore a new city — all through a fun, interactive experience.

Each year, the Gold Scholarship Programme welcomes a diverse group of students from across the UK. Many are meeting for the first time and come from very different backgrounds. The university wanted to create an event that would:

  • Encourage collaboration and communication
  • Build confidence in an informal, engaging way
  • Create shared experiences that strengthen group bonds
  • Introduce Scholars to London, a city unfamiliar to many of them

The Solution

To bring this to life, the University of Bath chose Wildgoose’s Urban Explorer — a GPS-led city adventure that gets teams working together to solve clues, complete creative challenges, and uncover hidden gems around London.

Using the Wildgoose platform, small groups of Scholars explored the city while a remote Wildgoose presenter hosted the experience live, setting the tone, sharing updates, and keeping the energy high throughout the day.

The Results

Over five consecutive years, this event has become a highlight of the Gold Scholarship calendar. Each year’s cohort finishes the day having made new friends, built confidence, and shared a memorable adventure together.

“We have used Wildgoose’s Urban Explorer to help us create an experience where our Scholars have to work together in small groups, solving problems and getting to know each other outside of their courses and the university campus. They always have a great time; the activity is good fun, and it meets our objectives very well in addition to introducing a fantastic part of London to many Scholars who are from other parts of the country. The remote presenter has never failed to pitch their presentation and tone to the cohort perfectly. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to other organisations looking to find ways to engage young people in informal and fun outdoor activities.”
