DIY & Self-Managed Team Building Activities For Work

Self-managed team building activities are low-cost team events that participants can run themselves. They do not include a professional event host so a team member (usually one nominated person in the group) will organise and guide the activity. They can be played online or in-person. Self-managed team building activities are also known as: DIY team building activities or self-hosted team events.

This can depend on the kind of team activity you’re looking for and the outcomes you’d like to achieve. A self-managed team building activity could be right for you if:

• You’re on a budget and/or booking a last-minute team event
• You want a virtual or in-person game that’s easy to set up
• You’re looking for a flexible activity with no time restrictions
• You would rather run / personalize your activity in-house

Our self-managed activities are designed to last between 60 - 120 minutes, depending on the type of game you choose. You can find game durations in the ‘How can this event be delivered?’ section on our individual game pages.

In-Person
In-Person Team Building Activities are designed to physically bring everyone together to complete a series of challenges or tasks. Quick team building activities played in-person are designed for indoor spaces (your office, conference room or space of your choice.)

Virtual
Virtual Team Building Activities use many of the same elements as in-person team building activities, however, they’re designed to be played remotely. Teams are still divided into groups and complete a series of tasks or challenges that encourage engagement and fun, but the delivery of virtual team building activities means they can be played from anywhere.

Hybrid
Hybrid Team Building Activities offer a blended option that suits both in-person and remote teams, using gameplay that can be adapted to suit a wide variety of participants, both in and out of the office.

Once you’ve completed your booking, a member of the Wildgoose team will send you all the information you need to get set up for your activity. Ahead of the day, simply send the link for the Joining Instructions to all participants. This has information about downloading the app that everyone will need to do, and the QR code that they will scan when you’re ready to begin.

• Step 1) Brief your team. We have included a briefing video located in the Event Organizer section of the Joining Instructions which you may want to play for everyone to kick things off. If you’re unable to do this, don’t worry - there is a tutorial video shown in the app when participants join the game.
• Step 2) Split into teams. (We recommend teams of 4-6 players). You will also need to name them Team 1, Team 2 etc.
• Step 3) Download the Mobile Adventures App from your smartphone app store
• Step 4) Scan the QR code sent by your team member
• Step 5) Take your team selfie, pick a name and join the game!

They’ll also be available over the phone during your event in case you have any questions or experience technical issues. A live scoreboard will be available in the app throughout the game. This will also be available in the Event Organiser section of the Joining Instructions where you’ll find a link to all the photos and videos from each team that you can share at the end.

In order to play our self-managed team activities, each player will need a smartphone (iOS or Android) with access to a camera, location services and mobile data. For virtual activities, you'll need access to a laptop with video conferencing software downloaded (Zoom etc.) For outdoor team activities, we also recommend that you wear comfortable footwear.
