Corporate team building costs vary widely because so much depends on format (virtual, indoor or outdoor GPS), hosting tier, group size, and how much custom branding or content you want. At Wildgoose, straightforward off-the-shelf activities start from £12pp, and full customisation (a bespoke, venue-mapped experience with your own branding, questions and location triggers) is a £2,000 + VAT bolt-on charged on top of the per-person rate. If a supplier won’t give you a number without a call, that’s usually because their pricing depends on variables they haven’t told you about yet. This guide sets out what those variables are, and where to check current per-person rates for each format.

Why don’t more team building suppliers publish their prices?

Most suppliers in this market work on an enquiry-led model: you submit a brief, wait for a call, then receive a quote. That’s not necessarily a red flag, but it does mean you can’t compare options quickly, and it puts the burden of research on the organiser rather than the supplier. Publishing a clear starting price doesn’t remove complexity from a quote, it just means you’re not spending a phone call to find out whether a supplier is even in your budget.

What drives the cost of a team building activity?

Four variables account for most of the difference between a low-cost virtual activity and a premium, fully bespoke one:

Format. Virtual experiences (run through an app alongside a video call) are generally the cheapest, because there’s no venue, travel or physical kit involved. Indoor, in-person experiences using app-based game screens sit in the middle. Outdoor GPS-based experiences, which map real-world locations across a city or venue, cost more to set up but suit larger groups and bigger occasions.

Hosting tier. A self-managed activity, where your team runs the session themselves using a step-by-step guide, is the lowest-cost option. A remote host, who briefs the group over video and manages the scoreboard from afar, sits in the middle. An onsite host, who travels to your venue to brief the room and run a live wrap-up, costs the most because you’re paying for their time and travel as well as the activity itself. Our guide to whether you need a host sets out what each option adds.

Group size. Per-head pricing usually falls as group size rises, since fixed costs (hosting, setup) are spread across more people. A single Wildgoose virtual session takes up to 300 people, and bigger groups play across several sessions, either at the same time or back to back. In person, it’s up to 750 people. If you’re planning something bigger, talk to our events team.

Customisation. An off-the-shelf activity costs the least. Adding your own branding (logo, colours) is typically a fixed add-on rather than a per-head cost. At Wildgoose it’s around £100 + VAT. Injecting custom questions into an existing template is a step up again (around £200 + VAT for up to 8 questions). A fully bespoke experience, built around your specific venue with custom questions, challenges and location triggers, is the most expensive option because it’s built from scratch rather than adapted from a template. At Wildgoose it’s a £2,000 + VAT bolt-on. Like the smaller customisation options, it’s charged on top of the per-person activity cost rather than replacing it, so budget for both.

Is a cheaper option actually worse?

Not necessarily. A self-managed virtual activity at the lower end of the price range can be just as engaging as an expensive onsite one, if the format suits your group. The right question isn’t “what’s the cheapest option” or “what’s the most premium option” but “what level of hosting and customisation does this specific team, occasion and budget need.” A 30-minute virtual energiser for a Monday all-hands doesn’t need the same investment as a 120-minute outdoor treasure hunt closing out an annual conference.

What should you ask a supplier if they won’t give you a price upfront?

Ask for a price range tied to format and group size before you book a call, not after. A supplier who can say “a self-managed virtual activity for 20 people starts at £X” without needing details about your specific occasion is one whose pricing structure is simple. If every answer is “it depends, let’s schedule a call,” that’s not automatically a problem, but it will cost you more time to compare against alternatives.
